Hacker News contributor Matt “Skelly” Pomerantz has spent the past several months investigating the possibility of using computer RAM to play the newest, most popular video games.
And his findings are a clear signal that this trend is just getting started.
Pomerantz started investigating the problem after seeing that his girlfriend was getting increasingly bored with the same old games and decided to find a way to keep her interested.
She had started playing the newest video game of her choice, Super Mario Bros., which was the first game to have an in-game avatar that was actually a cartoon character.
The character was also a big draw for a certain demographic of young gamers.
But it didn’t stop there.
Pomeranz decided to investigate the use of a computer’s RAM to create an alternate avatar, which was a great way to continue playing a game that wasn’t really a game at all.
Pombergs findings showed that the computer had enough RAM to hold a full game of Super Mario, but not enough RAM that it would actually work.
This meant that the video game could only run in the emulator, which allowed the user to play a game while watching the animated avatar.
Pominz was able to replicate this trick on his own system.
He set up a game and a virtual avatar, and then connected the two devices together.
He was able, in theory, to play Super Mario and Super Mario Kart on the same system.
This wasn’t a problem for all video games, however.
There are games like Angry Birds, Candy Crush Saga, and Minecraft that use an emulator for the user.
Some games also use a video game’s in-engine rendering engine, which allows the user and the game’s developer to create different visual effects.
However, Pomeratz’s work showed that many of these games were actually running in real-time, so it’s impossible to recreate the gameplay of a game like Angry Bird.
Pominz’s findings suggest that the in-frame graphics may be a more useful feature than the real-world rendering.
So what do you do if you can’t play your favorite game in-person?
Pomerotz believes that there are some games that can be played with in-browser.
These games use the same in-memory graphics as in-player games, but the in game game can be paused to allow the user or the developer to keep the player occupied.
This allows the game to continue to run even after the user decides to quit.
However, it’s not an easy task to emulate the full-screen experience in-house.
To do this, the game needs to use the full emulator for its in-session graphics.
This requires a lot of RAM, and that can quickly become a problem if the emulator is using more than a fraction of a megabyte.
The only way to make the in real time look like the in player’s experience is to use a virtualized rendering engine that allows the in frame graphics to be rendered on top of the in screen graphics.
That way, you’re able to see the full in-scene graphical effects on top.
Pompanglantz is also hoping to create a way for his girlfriend to continue enjoying her favorite video games by making a similar game using in-app purchases.
He created a game in which the player would be able to spend real money to play various virtual games and then play those games without leaving the emulator.
But this requires a very specific level of RAM to run the game in the virtual world.
That’s because a virtual emulator can only use about 1.8 gigabytes of RAM for its graphics, which means that Pomerazs game will have to use 1.9 gigabytes to play.POMBERTIS work could also help other developers who may be struggling to create games in the future.
For example, developers can easily add a “game” tab to the user interface, which lets users view a list of the currently playing games and how much money they’ve earned.
The tab could also be used to show a graph of the user’s spending habits, which could help developers better understand how the user is spending their time.
Pomicantz also hopes that his work will help to encourage developers to make games in-platform, and encourage gamers to buy games from developers that are able to run in-place.
“The most important thing for developers is to build an emulator that can run their games in realtime, and we want to make it as easy as possible for developers to do that,” Pomerartz said.
“We want to have the best of both worlds.”
